Today I get to work at the Thirsty Conference. Thirsty is designed for College and Campus Leadership. Louie and the Passion folks put this conference on at North Point. There are a couple of weird things about me working the conference that I would like to point out.
1. Three years ago I was here as attendee and I had just finished my first interview with the Middle School team of North Point. What a difference three years can make.
2. Today I found myself in a room that I didn’t belong in. At least that’s the way I felt. We had a production meeting before the conference got underway and I started looking around the room feeling like the freshman that sneaked into the prom. Here’s the roll call: Louie & Shelly Giglio, Andy Stanley, Chris Tomlin, Charlie Hall, David Crowder, all band members of the people I just mentioned, Francis Chan and as I sit here writing this, Christy Nockels is eating her lasagna about three feet away from me and Matt Redman is probably going to walk in at any moment to get his dinner.
I know I sound a bit like a Christian music groupie right now but it’s humbling to have the opportunity to sit and observe these people in a natural environment. They’re not on stage; they’re not having twenty-minute prayer times over their dinner. They’re just being themselves and I’m finding myself wondering if God will choose to use me to affect people the way he’s used them. Either way, I know I’m a lucky little Irishman. Thanks God for showing me the back door to the gym.
