Many of my fellow bloggers do book reviews from time to time. I really do love when I have the opportunity and the initiative to read through an entire book. However, I lack the discipline to do that on a regular basis. What I do have the opportunity to do on a semi-regular basis is rent a movie. Thanks to the blessing of young children and the rip-off racket of the box office I am not able to see very many movies in the theatre. This particular situation has it’s benefits along with its obvious and I’ll be it selfish negatives.
Such is the case tonight. One of my wife’s best and most loyal friends Karen is visiting with us tonight from Alabama. I try to see little opportunities to give Anita some “Anita Time.” We needed some milk so I stayed home and got Savannah Grace settled in bed while Anita and Karen went to the store for milk and to rent a movie. Looking back, I should have given some suggestions and parameters on the whole renting process.
I say all that to give my first official movie review. The movie we watched tonight was the Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves movie “The Lake House.” Let me cut right to the chase. This movie was miserable. The plot was boring, the sequence was to loose and the dialogue was cheesier than a child’s pizzeria. I couldn’t decide if it was a weak attempt to mirror Jane Austen’s Persuasion, or if it was just a bad love story. (By the way, I’m not that well rounded. They mention the book in the movie.) Either way this is a bad movie. Even for “chick flick” standards. The only recommendation I have for this movie is to recommend you never tell anyone if you like it.
Hey man, Thanks for the comments. I like the thought of launching pad. Wow, the lake house i have missed that one so far…
The author of “Persuasion” is Jane Austen, but cudos on spelling her last name correctly 🙂
