My number one spiritual gift (after multiple tests) is faith. I suppose that means I believe God IS ABLE TO DO what He says He can do. In other words, I believe God is capable to do anything but I also understand that He may not move the way I think He should. Over the years my faith has driven my wife a little crazy. She’s a planner and a metrics kind of person. She’s more comfortable being able to measure, see and touch the circumstances surrounding our life.
Recently our Ford Explorer’s transmission died (I believe I’ve mentioned it). Since we live so close to the church and we have another vehicle that works, I really wanted us to put some feet to our faith. The natural reaction to an unexpected $2500 bill is a complete freak out. That reaction in no way honors God. We wanted to do everything we could to come up with the money to fix the truck and ask God to do what we couldn’t. We were in a “if God don’t, it won’t” situation. We just didn’t have the money and we didn’t have a way to come up with the money.
Then we got an email from a wonderfully generous couple. They felt that this was an opportunity to be obedient to God in their own lives by blessing us and paying for half of our bill. Needless to say we were grateful and once again taken aback by God’s provision.
The very next day we got an email from the owner of the townhouse we had in Charlotte letting us know that our lease has been taken over and we were free from our agreement that would’ve lasted through November and we would be receiving our security deposit back within a week. That deposit will almost cover the rest of our bill for the Explorer. FAITH!!!!
Now, we try hard not to use faith as God currency but in this situation He simply provided almost all the currency we needed to fix our vehicle. I’m so thankful that we are surrounded by people who pray for us and allow God to use them on our behalf. I’m also thankful for the opportunity for Anita and I to put some action behind our hearts and trust God in a difficult situation.
I know cars are just cars but this was a great faith step for us. Please continue to pray for the Joye’s as they are showing great faith and heart in a much more important and serious circumstance with the health of their baby girls. Thank you Mr. Chen for dealing so kindly with us and our move. Thank you to the couple that blessed us. Thank you Anita for trusting, supporting and believing in me to lean on God for our needs. What a great God we serve!
